Canada Futsal Falls 3-2 to USA on Match Day Two

Canadian Soccer AssociationCanada fell 3-2 to group rival USA on the second match day of the 2012 CONCACAF Futsal Championship. Canada created plenty of chances late in the match, but could not equalise in its second loss in as many matches. The Tuesday 3 July futsal match was played at the Domo Polideportivo in Ciudad Guatemala.

Canada must now win its third and final group match over Panama by three goals or more, combined with a USA loss to Guatemala, to finish second in the group standings.

Canada opened the scoring in the seventh minute, with captain Bruno Xavier hitting the target on a free kick. USA then equalised in the 13th minute, with Patrick Healy making it 1-1.

The next goal came at 9’19 of the second half as Brian Perez made it 2-1 in favour of the Americans. Ian Bennett made it 2-2 just a minute later, but then USA took the lead again at 12’39. Despite numerous chances, Canada could not equalise late in the match. 

Canada’s futsal team featured Joshua Lemos, Roy Blanche, Bruno Xavier, Steve De Blasio, Matthew Rios, Robbie Aristodemo, Robbie Tice, Daniel Chamale, Alex Elliott, Louis-Charles Laliberté, Jordan Ongaro, Alvaro Yaques and Ian Bennett.

Canada’s third group match is Wednesday 4 July 2012 at 18.00 local (20.00 ET / 17.00 PT).
