Canada is now one win away from qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Turkey 2013.

The Canadian U-20’s powered to a 5:1 win over Nicaragua on Friday 22 February in the team’s final group stage match of the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship at the Estadio Univeristario BUAP in Puebla, Mexico.

Canada will now do battle with rivals USA in the quarter-finals on Tuesday 26 January with a place at Turkey 2013 on the line.

Canada got off the mark early with a delightful first-time strike by Samuel Piette in the 6th minute.

Caleb Clarke then added Canada’s second before Mauro Estaquio converted from the spot to put Canada three goals clear within 40 minutes.

Nicaragua’s Cristian Guttierez was sent off on the play leading to Eustaquio’s goal, putting his team in further trouble and Canada took advantage adding another two goals en-route to a resounding 5:1 victory.

Clarke scored his second of the game early in the second half before substitute Ben McKendry chipped in with Canada’s fifth goal of the night.

“We got the result we wanted in the first half,” said Head Coach Nick Dasovic.

“When we went up 3:0 and they went down to 10 men they were up against it. Our boys did well to capitalize on the opportunities we created.”

Canada will now take on USA in what is certain to be a hotly-contested one-off match to determine which side will come away with one of the four CONCACAF spots at the FIFA U-20 World Cup to take place in June and July in Turkey.

“It will be a special match as part of the Canada-USA rivalry,” said Dasovic.

“I’m sure they will be up for it just as much as we are
