21-year-old Canadian defeats Stakhovsky in straight sets to reach quarter-finals
Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) won his second round match on Thursday night to reach the quarter-finals of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships, an ATP World Tour 500 event currently underway in Memphis, Tennessee. .
Raonic took on world no. 68 Sergiy Stakhovsky of the Ukraine. The match was the second meeting between the two players with Raonic winning their first confrontation in Malaysia in 2010 in a close encounter. Raonic made it easier on himself this time around, needing just 72 minutes to post a 6-4, 6-4 victory. He hit 11 aces and won 94 percent of his first serve points to bring his win-loss record in 2012 to 13-1.
Raonic, who lost in last year’s Memphis final to American Andy Roddick, will face Olivier Rochus of Belgium in Friday’s quarter-finals. Rochus knocked out American Ryan Harrison in his second round match. The quarter-final clash is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Centre Court.
