The 24-year-old will play World No. 1 Azarenka in the third round

After two days off, Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) returned to action on Wednesday at Roland-Garros to take on no. 31 seed Zheng Zie of China in the second round.

Unlike her opening match, Wozniak didn’t wait long to impose her game. She quickly won the first set and stayed the course in the second set as Zheng tried to push the match to a decisive third set. Wozniak scored a 6-2, 6-4 victory in 88 minutes, hitting 20 winners along the way.

This is the second win for Wozniak over Zheng in as many meetings, earning her first win in 2009 at Eastbourne. This is also the fourth time in her career that she has reached the third round in Paris, advancing to the same stage in 2008, 2009 and 2010, when she reached the Round of 16 before falling to Serena Williams.

Wozniak will now take on Victoria Azarenka of Belarus who won her second round match 6-1, 6-1 against German Dinah Pfizenmaier. The Canadian will meet the World No. 1 for the second consecutive year at Roland-Garros after playing and falling to Dane Caroline Wozniacki in the second round last year.
