In Noel Coward’s comedy about a spirited love triangle, novelist Charles Condomine accidentally summons the spirit of his dead wife Elvira during a séance conducted by the gleefully eccentric Madame Arcati. Trouble is, only Charles can see Elvira, who proceeds to wreak havoc with Charles’s current marriage to the jealous Ruth. A hit during its premiere in 1941 and adapted into an Oscar-winning 1945 film with Rex Harrison, Blithe Spirit is Coward at his driest and most urbane. Whittier Community Theatre presents this ghostly audience favorite.
