Ford Amphitheatre (Hollywood, CA)

"Seven Paintings, A Story in Performance"

Commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence with Seven Paintings, A Story in Performance, an interdisciplinary theatrical event which elegantly combines visual art, traditional music and dance to tell the story of a young Jamaican medium who flees her post as village healer to pursue her dreams of becoming a dancer. Paintings by Jamaican-born visual artist Bernard Hoyes are the evening’s springboard for choreography by Pat Taylor of Jazzantiqua Dance and Music Ensemble and polyrhythmic drumming from Kabasas Drum Ensemble. Part of the Ford 2012 Dance Series, this creative and spiritual theater experience will feature seven seminal works by Hoyes rear-projected onto the stage and brought to life through a mix of music, dance and pantomime.
