René Rivera (Broadway’s Salome) stars in what’s been hailed by critics a tour-de-force performance. Inspired by his own experiences as a Mexican-American actor and family man struggling to find his personal and cultural identity, The King of the Desert has Rivera playing a multitude of other characters, including his parents, siblings, teachers and others as the story jumps back in time to his childhood. The boy from the barrio escapes into his imagination, trying on characters like a Mexican revolutionary poet, a Mayan shaman and a werewolf, before finding success at Julliard and on Broadway. Directed by Sal Romeo, the show returns to the Southland to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
