Henry VI, Part 1: The Wars of the Roses Begin
Lex Theatre (Hollywood, CA)
We know the later Shakespeare, the plays like Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet that he wrote when he was an established master. What we don’t know as well are the early works, the plays written when Shakespeare was still young, full of passion and politics. Henry VI, Part 1, probably the least-produced play Shakespeare wrote, is one of those works. Using a theatrical barrage of combat, live music, pageantry and soaring language, the Production Company performs Shakespeare bursting with vitality. This is the kind of rambunctious revival that doesn’t come around very often.
