Madrid Theatre (Canoga Park, CA)
Mozart and Puccini stand alone as two unique geniuses with the gift of being able to make audiences laugh as easily as they can make them cry. Center Stage Opera puts this wonderful contrast on full display with a performance of one of each composer’s most beloved single-act operas. Mozart’s Impresario deals with the hilarious consequences brought on when two battling divas drive a poor opera impresario to madness as they literally take over center stage in an attempt to be the one and only “prima donna.” The sparkling, bubbling score shows Mozart at his comic plateau. Next it’s on to Puccini’s well-known masterpiece, Suor Angelica, which tells the tragic tale of a mother separated from her child as she enters a convent for the sake of preserving her family honor. It is a story of love, loss and ultimate redemption that features one of Puccini’s most soaring and lyrical scores.
