Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles, CA)
The godfather of the Tropicália movement, Brazilian singer-guitarist Gilberto Gil makes his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut with a concert of the danceable, funky, folkloric rhythms from northeastern Brazil known as forró. With over 50 albums, awards ranging from seven Grammys to the Polar Prize and a strong social commitment in his lyrics, Gil was a natural choice to be Brazil’s Minister of Culture for five years. He has played a leading role in the modernization of Brazilian popular music with a strong rhythmic appeal and melodic richness, as mixed as its people.
