Egyptian Theatre (Hollywood, CA)
This pair of Spanish language films includes Un Cuento Chino (Chinese Take-Out), the story of a curmudgeon who reluctantly takes in an out-of-work Chinese immigrant as a roommate. Roberto (Ricardo Darin) lives a solitary life collecting newspaper clippings and visiting his parents’ grave when Jun (Huang Sheng Huang) falls out of a taxi and into his life. Sebastian Borensztein’s warm, endearing third feature was the 2011 winner of Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Film at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Argentina. In El Ultimo Elvis (The Last Elvis), John McInerny delivers an outstanding performance as Elvis impersonator Carlos Gutierrez. Gutierrez lives in a bizarre corner of Buenos Aires populated by Gene Simmons, Barbra Streisand and other celebrity impersonators, and spends his days crooning and thrusting his pelvis. When his estranged wife is involved in a car accident, he tries to reintegrate himself into family life. Both films are in Spanish with English subtitles, and the double feature will kick off with a free tango lesson in the Egyptian courtyard.
