Freud Playhouse at UCLA (Los Angeles, CA)

One of Australia’s most respected contemporary theater companies, Back to Back Theatre, brings their award-winning and highly original production, Ganesh Versus the Third Reich to the Freud Playhouse, courtesy of Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA. Back to Back Theatre is known for creating new forms of theater drawn from the experiences of its company of professional actors with disabilities. Ganesh Versus the Third Reich begins with Ganesh, the elephant-headed Hindu god often worshipped as the Remover of Obstacles. Ganesh is on a mission through Nazi Germany to reclaim the ancient Hindu symbol of the swastika and restore it to its proper context. This poignant and disarming drama tells its tale with theatricality and wit, inviting the audience to think deeply about the ethics of cultural appropriation and responsibility of storytellers.
