Egyptian Theatre (Hollywood, CA)

Witness the artistry of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers on the big screen, take a gander at a world-class collection of ’30s-’40s movie posters and then join other art deco fans at a nearby club for a no-host “Cocktails in Historic Places” gathering. This American Cinematheque event, co-presented with the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles, kicks off with a 40-minute illustrated talk by Mike Kaplan on the art and design of classic film posters, complete with examples from his own stellar archive. Then you’ll see a screening of 1938’s Carefree, in the beautiful Egyptian Theatre. This screwball comedy-musical finds Astaire as a psychiatrist, who hypnotizes his patient, the beautiful Rogers, putting her into a hilariously blissful mood. The Irving Berlin score features the tunes “I Used to Be Color Blind” and “Change Partners,” an Oscar nominee.
