Hollywood Bowl (Hollywood, CA)
The beloved conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Michael Tilson Thomas comes down south to lead a rousing performance by the Los Angeles Philharmonic of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. The composer himself stated that this work was meant to express feelings that words alone could not. The wild and bombastic piece of music he created was an escape for Tchaikovsky from a failed marriage. He threw himself into the creation of this symphony, resulting in one of his finest works, with rich melodies that play out the thunderous battle between man and the forces of fate. The program also features one of the world’s greatest violinists, the brilliant Gil Shaham in Sibelius’ brooding and virtuosic Violin Concerto.
