Hollywood Bowl (Hollywood, CA)
Spend an unforgettable night under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Kicking off the evening’s program is Paul Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Inspired by the Goethe poem of the same name, this piece is probably best known for its role in the Walt Disney film Fantasia. Next up, Principal Concertmaster Martin Chalifour illuminates Alexander Glazunov’s brilliant Violin Concerto. The evening culminates with one of the LA Philharmonic’s signature pieces, Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, an extravagant epic that tells the story of a gifted but lovesick artist who, in despair, has taken an overdose of opium. Inspired by the composer’s own unrequited infatuation with a Shakespearean actress, Symphonie Fantastique is equal parts autobiography and hallucination.
