Casa 0101 Theater (Los Angeles, CA)

Trio Los Machos, the played inspired by the legendary music of Los Panchos, returns to CASA 0101 Theater. Written by Josefina Lopez, the award-winning Chicana playwright and screenwriter (Real Women Have Curves), Trio Los Machos follows three young migrant workers who journey to US during the era of the Bracero guest worker program (1942-1964). Their tuneful harmonies are a big hit with the boys in the workers’ barracks and eventually the three decide to pursue music full-time. However, as the passage of time undermines their health and abilities, the musicians become more and more dependent on each other. Their proud machismo, once an armor against a difficult world, suddenly becomes an obstacle to their happiness. Throughout the piece, the music of the world-famous trío romántico, Los Panchos, evokes the hopes and dreams of those that lived through a little-appreciated period in the histories of both America and Mexico.
