Los Angeles Philharmonic: "Russian Journey"

Prokofiev leads a lineup of some of Russia’s greatest composers on the bill for this Los Angeles Philharmonic concert, conducted by Hollywood Bowl favorite Leonard Slatkin and featuring acclaimed violinist Gil Shaham. You’ll hear Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture, Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, a colorful musical interpretation of four exotic tales from the Arabian Nights. Lush, romantic and dramatic, the piece is not to be missed. Since his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 1974, Leonard Slatkin has led virtually all of the major orchestras in the United States, and is a regular guest at major summer festivals like Aspen, Ravinia, and New York’s Mostly Mozart Festival. An Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient, violinist Gil Shaham has won several Grammys for his recordings, which include an album of Prokofiev pieces.
