Los Angeles Philharmonic: "All Mozart"

Alternately fiery and gracious, Mozart’s mature works make up this Los Angeles Philharmonic concert under the baton of conductor Nicholas McGegan. Although Mozart’s career was tragically short, the prolific composer wrote over 600 works, of which many of his most famous were composed in his final years. Opening the program is the overture from the opera Idomeneo, followed by Piano Concerto No. 22, featuring Inon Barnatan, who was recently named the New York Philharmonic’s first artist-in-association. Mozart’s incidental music written for the play Thamos, King of Egypt is up next, and the evening concludes with the Haffner Symphony. Called “one of the finest baroque conductors of his generation” by The Independent of London, Nicholas McGegan is known for his joyful approach to period music. He has been music director of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra for 27 years and was artistic director of the Göttingen International Handel Festival for 20 years.
