Get in the Halloween mood with a modern, musical take on Mary Shelley’s gothic classic Frankenstein. Originally produced off-Broadway, Frankenstein The Musical is a faithful and thrilling adaptation of the original story of scientist Victor Frankenstein, who plays god by daring to create life — only to turn his back on his monstrous creation, setting off a cycle of tragic violence. Taking a cue from opera, the score by Mark Baron and acclaimed playwright-novelist Jeffrey Jackson uses melodic lines to capture the personalities of each of the characters, creatively matching the music to the story. Jackson, who also co-wrote the book, is an Obie-winning playwright. The New York Times called his play Botanica “one of 2012’s most galvanizing theater moments.”
