The Toronto Symphony Orchestra presents Best of Tchaikovsky at Roy Thomson Hall on December 3 and 6 at 8:00pm. Conductor Cristian Măcelaru (Associate Conductor of The Philadelphia Orchestra) is at the podium. The concert includes gorgeous ballet music from The Nutcracker and the dynamic, folk-flavoured Piano Concerto No. 1 featuring German-Japanese pianist Alice Sara Ott. The programme also includes the Jurisprudence March, also known as Jurists’ March or Marche Solenelle, which was written to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Imperial School of Jurisprudence in Saint Petersburg, of which Tchaikovsky was a graduate.
