Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (Los Angeles, CA)
The LA Opera has built a reputation as one of the finest opera companies in the world. Now you can see for yourself when the majesty of three of music’s most-loved operas unfolds on the stage at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. First up is a musical adaptation of Herman Melville’s Moby Dick, written by Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer. This much-anticipated, epic production comes to Los Angeles after wowing audiences around the world. Next is Bellini’s Norma. Considered the epitome of the bel canto opera style, Norma is known for its beautiful and challenging music, and has been a vehicle for supremely talented sopranos since its debut in 1831. The role will be sung here by Angela Meade. Closing out the package will be Mozart’s The Magic Flute. This whimsical fairy-tale opera — the composer’s last — tells the story of handsome Prince Tamino’s quest to rescue his true love, Pamina, who has been captured by the evil Sarastro, and is filled with romance, spirituality, humor and more.
