"The Theater of War"

Oscar-winning actress Frances McDormand (Fargo, Olive Kitteridge), Academy Award nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck) and author-theater director Bryan Doerries join forces at L.A.’s Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts to celebrate the debut of Doerries’ new book The Theater of War with dramatic readings and conversation. The author started an innovative public health project that produces ancient Greek tragedies onstage for audiences that include current and returned soldiers, natural disaster survivors and a wide range of other at-risk individuals. For example, he’s used Ajax to help soldiers cope with PTSD and Prometheus Bound to give a different perspective on the modern penal system. The Theater of War powerfully illustrates his experiences engaging military personnel and veterans with the redemptive and therapeutic power of classic Greek plays. McDormand and Strathairn will help shed some light on a few of Doerries’ extraordinary firsthand stories.
