Massey Hall presents
Torn From the Pages: Ian McEwan
Hosted by Dave Bidini
Tickets: $29.50 – $39.50
Torn From the Pages, a series which brings together music and literature in an altogether new way, returns to the Harboufront Centre Theatre on September 23. Internationally-acclaimed novelist Ian McEwans latest work, Nutshell Penguin Random House Canada, which is out in September, is at the centre of the seventh edition of the series created, hosted and curated by author and musician Dave Bidini. Joining McEwan and Bidini will be a cast of performers to be announced in the coming weeks who will premiere new work based on McEwans book.
Previous editions have featured some of Canadas most talented creators John K. Samson, Tony Dekker, Mustafa the Poet, Christine Fellows and others take on Governor General Literary Award-winner Nino Riccis sixth novel, Sleep, as well as the work of Giller Prize-nominate Miriam Toews.
Perhaps best known for Atonement, which was adapted into an Oscar-winning film, McEwan was awarded the Man Booker Prize and has often appeared on its short-list as well as a host of other prizes. No stranger to music himself, McEwan co-created an oratorio Or Shall We Die? and an opera For You and has placed music and musicians at the centre of several of his books. The coming weeks will reveal the artists tasked with creating new works based on Nutshell.
