The officials at the Assiniboine Park Zoo have announced to have allowed the orphaned cougar cub from Alberta, which was taken in by staff at the Assiniboine Park Zoo last month, to meet people openly and greet the visitors at the zoo. However, the announcement added that this won’t be the case forever.

The four-month-old cub was taken in by local Winnipeg zoo in early December from the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society after being found orphaned and struggling to survive on her own. According to the zoo officials, the cub is now thriving and gaining weight to improve fitness while remaining in excellent health. However, the officials revealed that the zoo is already taking care of two adult cougars so the cub might have to be moved elsewhere. In the meantime, the cub has been placed in a temporary exhibit space created for her at the north end of the zoo, i.e. next to the snow leopard enclosure. The zoo’s director of zoological operations, Dr. Brian Joseph, stated that “we’re very pleased to have her on exhibit on a temporary basis so our visitors have a chance to meet her.”

Whereas at the same time, the Assiniboine Park Zoo officials are holding a name-that-cub competition on its Facebook page. As a result, zoo officials have asked its followers to suggest different names until Sunday night, after which it will open up a poll next week with selectable choices to finally determine the name of the cub.
