England will face South Africa in the third and final test match of the summer at Lords on Thursday with the intense need to win the match in order to level the series. Despite their hard work from last two years to claim the world number one ranking, England now seem as they will give it up to their opposition unless they can force an unlikely victory.
Kevin Pietersen was sensationally left out of the English squad which was named on Sunday for failing to convince the England selectors he didn’t send derogatory text messages to the South Africans during the last test at Headingley last week. In the second test in Leeds, Pietersen scored 149 and is widely acclaimed to be England’s best batsman and a man who can win a match. So it is a loss for English team in itself not having this man in their squad at Lords. The English line up may include: Andrew Strauss (capt), Alastair Cook, Jonathan Trott, Ian Bell, James Taylor, Jonathan Bairstow, Matt Prior (wk), Stuart Broad, Tim Bresnan, Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Steven Finn, Graham Onions.
South Africa requires only a draw to seal the number one spot in the ICC test rankings alongwith the test series while a win would give them a 2-0 series win. If the visitors were to steal the series that would be hugely embarrassing for captain Strauss and his players. South African team has proved their worth through consistent batting and bowling. Tourists have shown in real terms that they came to win and now they are hoping to continue their winning streak in this test match as well. The South African squad may include: Graeme Smith (capt), Alviro Petersen, Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers (wk), Jacques Rudolph, JP Duminy, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Imran Tahir.
