Hindus urge end to Gypsies maltreatment

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed has warmly congratulated French President-elect Francois Hollande on his election victory.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, hoped that Hollande would now successfully work for ending Roma (Gypsies) maltreatment in France.

Rajan Zed urged Hollande to end the past practices of dismantling of Roma settlements forcing many into homelessness, Roma crackdowns/expulsions/deportations, xenophobia and racism laden Roma policies, trying to gain political capital by targeting helpless Roma, unleashing repression; and work for social inclusion and rehabilitation of Roma communities and ensuring them free movement; thus bringing honor to the great nation of France who claims to be the “mother of human rights”.

Europe’s most persecuted and discriminated community, Roma were reportedly facing apartheid conditions in Europe. Roma reportedly regularly encountered social exclusion, racism, substandard education, hostility, joblessness, rampant illness, inadequate housing, lower life expectancy, unrest, living on desperate margins, stereotypes, mistrust, rights violations, discrimination, marginalization, appalling living conditions, prejudice, human rights abuse, etc., Zed pointed out.
