Tartuffe: Moliere’s Comic Masterpiece at Long Beach Playhouse

Long Beach Playhouse presents Moliere’s classic tale of Tartuffe, the impossibly convincing impostor. One of the most famous theatrical comedies, Tartuffe was almost immediately censored after its debut, but the wildly popular comedy could not be kept under wraps. Tartuffe is a pious fraud who holds sway over young Orgon and his mother, such that they do nothing without consulting him first. The rest of the family is not convinced so they devise a plan to expose Tartuffe and his trickery. Long Beach Playhouse favorite Phyllis Gitlin, who is responsible for previous crowdpleasers, such as last year’s Boston Marriage.
