Julius Caesar: Shakespeare’s Always-Timely Political Thriller
McCadden Place Theatre (Hollywood, CA)
The New American Theatre starts off its season with the Shakespeare tragedy that’s most perfect for election time. Deep in shifting alliances and political treachery, Roman leader Julius Caesar faces a bloody coup orchestrated by his former “friends, Romans, countrymen” Brutus and Cassius, leading Shakespeare’s Caesar to utter the famous line, “Et tu, Brute?” Their actions then set off a civil war at the dawn of the Roman empire. Artistic director Jack Stehlin (Captain Roy Till on Showtime’s Weeds) helms the play for his award-winning company.
