Razzie Awards Jared Leto and Tom Hanks win prizes 2023

Jared Leto and Tom Hanks were among the winners at the Razzie Awards, which honors the worst performances in film of the year. Leto received the award for his role in the action movie Morbius, while Hanks won for his portrayal of Elvis Presley’s manager in Elvis. The jury cited Hanks’ “ridiculous accent” in the film as one of the reasons for his win.

Actress Adria Arjona also received a Razzie for worst supporting actress, for her role in Morbius. Meanwhile, the film Blonde, a biopic about Marilyn Monroe, was voted worst picture, with a total of eight nominations.

In a surprising move, the organization behind the awards, The Golden Raspberry Awards, nominated themselves for worst actress, as a response to criticism they faced for nominating a 12-year-old actress earlier this year. Founder John Wilson apologized and implemented an age limit, stating that nominees must be at least of legal age.

The Razzie Awards are traditionally announced the day before the Oscars, and have been held for 43 years. Notable past winners include Dutch director Paul Verhoeven, who accepted his award for his film Showgirls.
