SHOCKING Shah Rukh Khan's Raees lands in a new controversy

As Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated film Raees, the film landing in a controversy was bound to happen mainly because Pakistani actress Mahira Khan was the lead actress of the film. But, it turns out that is not the issue till now.

Even before the trailer was released, Raees was already surrounded with multiple controversies like the clash with Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil followed by the latter preponing the release date to avoid a clash with Raees. Then, it was followed by Shah Rukh Khan preponing Raees release date and once again come face to face with Kaabil. This has not gone well with filmmaker Rakesh Roshan who is the producer of Kaabil and he has publicly spoken about it as well.

Another controversy Raees has landed in is when members of Shia community protested the use of religious symbols in the film. The film features a scene that depicts holy symbols during a Muharram procession that has upset the community which has written to the additional commissioner of police and social security branch. Some members of the community approached Javed Shroff regarding the same. Javed Shroff, who is also the secretary of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee, said that Nanji (Shia community member) and the others informed him about the objectionable scenes and requested him to take up the issue with the concerned authorities so that the filmmakers remove it not only from the trailer but also from the film. Javed Shroff further added that as the issue affected Shia community across the country and the world, he had also requested Leader of opposition in Parliament Gulam Nabi Azad, MP Ahmad Patel and MP Rajiv Shukla, who is on good terms with SRK, to resolve the issue amicably.

Sajjad (Pilloo) Nanji, who is a member of the Shia community, said that when he watched the trailer he was surprised to see that the main character played by Shah Rukh Khan was seen participating in a Muharram procession which has all the religious symbols and flags that are carried by the devotees during actual processions held all over the world. He said that if including the religious rituals followed by the Shias to commemorate the martyrdom of the Imam Hussain and his family in Karbala was not enough, Khan is also seen jumping over the flags and symbols in an action scene.

The letter to the police has all the details about the trailer that has offended community and has requested Shah Rukh Khan and the makers of Raees to withdraw all the scenes that will disrespect their traditions. They have also informed that if the request is not met there will be a possible peaceful protest.

Directed by Rahul Dholakia, Raees also stars Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and is scheduled to release on January 25, 2017.
