• 214 Hindi films were released.

Of the 214 Hindi films, four were animation films.

• Approximately 2938 crore NETT came as Box Office earnings from these 214 films at an average of 13.73 cr per movie.

• 52.17% of these earnings came from Top-10 Box Office grossers.

• Approx. 1,660 cr. of these earnings came from Top-10 Box Office grossers (Comparatively, approx. 1,526 cr. of these earnings came from Top-10 Box Office grossers in 2015)

• 77 films did a business of 1 crore or more (Comparatively, 70 films did a business of 1 crore or more in 2015)

• 30 films did a business of 30 crore or more (Comparatively, 32 films did a business of 30 crore or more in 2015)

• 19 films did a business of 50 crore or more (Comparatively, 22 films did a business of 50 crore or more in 2015)

• While the Ranveer Singh – Vaani Kapoor starrer Befikre worked well for its makers at the box office, it didn’t manage to generate much goodwill for its director Aditya Chopra

• The biggest losses of 2016 were incurred by the producers/ distributors of the film Ghayal Once Again, Jai Gangaajal, Rocky Handsome, A Flying Jatt and Shivaay.

• Other films that can easily be classified as flops are Azhar, Te3n, Sarbjit, Rock On 2, Akira, Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 and Mastizaade.

• However, Mirzya, Baar Baar Dekho, Fitoor and Great Grand Masti can be classified as the greatest debacles of 2016.
