It was only a matter of time when filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s unabashed controversial remarks would land him in trouble. On March 8, Ram Gopal Varma shared a disrespecting tweet mentioning Sunny Leone on International Women’s day. The filmmaker received backlash for saying, “I wish all the women in the world give men as much happiness as Sunny Leone gives.”
Twitterati did not leave a chance to troll RGV for being sexist and disrespecting Sunny Leone. Now, an activist named Vishaka Mhabre of the Ranaragini – a women’s wing of the Hindu Janajagruti group has reportedly filed a police complaint against him accusing him of insulting women. The complaint states that insulting a woman’s prestige is a cognizable offence under the Indecent Representation of Women Act 1986. An offence should be registered against the filmmaker under Cyber Law for victimization of Women and under section 292 of Indian Penal Code. The complaint also demands that RGV’s twitter account should be permanently blocked. Hindu Janajagruti has its headquarters in Goa.
However, RGV maintained that he’ll file a counter against the activist for disrespecting Sunny Leone’s followers. “Filing counter against OverActivist wid 212 followers which wud b her family n friends, for disrespecting 18 lakh followers of @SunnyLeone”, he wrote on Twitter.
After the complaint news, RGV once again could not stop ranting about his tweet. “My mom, sister, daughter and my grandmother mainly respect me for my honesty in openly expressing my respect towards @SunnyLeone ‘s honesty,” he wrote.
Sunny Leone is yet to comment on the whole controversy.
