Deepika Padukone hits back at fashion critics who dissed her her Met Gala 2017 red carpet appearance

After debuting in the West and making several appearances at prestigious events this year, Deepika Padukone made her debut at the MET Gala 2017. This year’s theme was Comme Des Garçons – the label famed for its unusual and outlandish silhouettes. The celebrities were encouraged to go all out to emulate the theme but many missed it.

Deepika Padukone chose a white satin Tommy Hilfiger backless gown for her grand debut at the MET ball which many fashion critics in the West did not like. Talking about the criticism about her outfit, Deepika Padukone said that as long as she is confident about her clothes, she is not bothered about any negative reviews.

At the launch of launch of Cannes Collection 2017 on Friday afternoon, Deepika Padukone hit back the critics by saying, “I think it’s all collective effort, it’s a team work. Like, how we work in films as a team, it’s the same. Some people might like what I wear and some people might not like what I wear. And that’s totally OK. I am not dressing for you, my love. I am dressing for myself. So, as long as I am having fun nothing else matters.”

Deepika Padukone further added that to attend a prestigious event like the MET Gala holds more importance than the clothes she wears on the red carpet. “I have always looked at things as opportunities and what you make of those opportunities. I am sure for Priyanka and me, the opportunity is not about what we are wearing but the privilege of being there at such a big event,” she says.

Deepika further added that her focus was to have fun at such a prestigious event instead of focussing on what she would wear.  “The only time I would truly be concerned would be when my mother or my girlfriends give me flak for something I wore that’s the time I will allow any comment to enter my life,” she adds.

On the work front, Deepika Padukone will be seen as Rani Padmini in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati which also stars Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. It is slated to release on November 17, 2017.
