“I started at Base camp, now aiming for MOUNT EVEREST” - Sonam Kapoor features

Sonam Kapoor is basking in the glory of a National Award Special Motion for Neerja. She feels that she shouldn’t be talking much about it. In an exclusive conversation with Faridoon Shahryar, instead of stating predictable things about winning the illustrious honour, Sonam chose to talk about her eventful journey and how she wishes to keep climbing the heights of success. This is what she had to say:

“I was already really satisfied when I was doing this film (Neerja). My journey actually started during Raanjhanaa when I found myself. I took a year and a half break before starting Raanjhanaa. I had just finished shooting for Mausam at that point. And I thought I need to take some time out because I am not happy with the way I am working and the things I am doing. And I just saw the passion Pankaj Kapoor had, in the way he chooses his films (whether Mausam worked or not). And the excitement that I had during Saawariya, Aisha and Delhi 6 had gone away. I was young 24 -25. So I thought I should take time off and try to find myself, and understand what I want to do. So I said no to a lot of films, and then Anand sir came to me and narrated this film. And he told me Dhanush was in the film. And I knew Dhanush only because of ‘Kolaveri Di’; it had gone completely viral at that time. I had no idea he was national award winner and he had done all these films. But I loved the role so much, the script so much and Anand sir so much. So I knew I would enjoy going to the sets of this film and after that everything just fell into places. After that every film that I chose whether it worked or not, I loved going to work. And 99 percent of all the films have worked. And then it has been an uphill climb and it has been very satisfying. I started at base camp and I’ll hopefully be going to Mount Everest.”
