Karan Johar’s much awaited movie Student Of The Year 2 dropped and well, there is nothing left to anyone’s imagination with this flick! The Punit Malhotra directorial is a sequel to the hit 2012 release Student Of The Year and well it marks the debut of Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria. Tiger Shroff is the male lead and together, they compete for the coveted Student Of The Year trophy in the movie. While the character names are different and the makers have tried to bring in the variation by introducing two heroines with a hero, reverse to what they had attempted in its sequel…the trailer still reeks of so many similarities. Here is why we think so.

1: St Teresa and the yearly competition

The conflict in the plot is the same. St Teresa is an elite school which has a yearly competition and the students strive to get selected in the same. The trailer opens up with the same theme and throughout the trailer, we see the leads Ananya Panday, Tara Sutaria, Tiger Shroff keep their eyes on the ball and work on winning the trophy.

2: Clash of the love interest

While the Student Of The Year showcased Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra fighting for Alia Bhatt, this one has the two ladies Ananya and Tara striving to win their common love interest, Tiger. There are fights and problems erupting due to their shared interest, much like the previous part.

3: The GLAM factor

Dharma Productions have NOT compromised on their trademark GLAM FACTOR. There are expensive bikes, snazzy cars, superb looking leads and of course the flamboyant clothes! The look and feel of the movie gives us severe déjà vu feels.

4: The characterisation of the leads

While Tiger Shroff is portrayed as a determined and talented young lad with modest means, Ananya is a ‘bad girl’ with an attitude and Tara is pitched as a sweet girl next door. The characters are boxed into these themes and these roles are reprised from Alia, Varun and Sid’s characters from the Student Of The Year.

5: Use of an old classic hit as a dance number

Student Of The Year had ‘The Disco Song’ which was reprised from an old dance number, ‘Disco Deewane’. This movie has Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani number which is remixed as a dance song too. Guess the makers are relying on this particular formula to work.
