USA: Free $30 Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…I went through a miserable journey to cast for Puraani Jeans - Tanushri Chattrji Basu One would have thought that for a filmmaker with 200 plus ads behind her over last 15 odd years, it would be cakewalk to put together the cast for her debut feature film. Well, it isn't as easy as it sounds something which Tanushri Chattrji Basu realized when she set out to make Puraani Jeans.

"More so since I have two heroes in the film and both of them have very strong roles," says Tanushri, "Being a new director, it was difficult to convince established actors that I would be able to do justice to both characters. Hence eventually I decided to go with two fairly new guys. Well, that wasn't easy either and trust me, I went through a completely miserable journey trying to cast for the film. I didn't want to settle for anyone lesser than the best."
The ones who made the cut were one film old Tanuj Virwani (son of Rati Agnihotri) and Aditya Seal (seen before as a teenager in Ek Chotti Si Love Story).

"Both of them have done a very admirable job. The story is about an introvert and an extrovert guy and how they are best friends. You needed both the actors to be very confident. While Tanuj plays the part of an introvert, Aditya is an extrovert here," reveals Tanushri.
To bring around this distinction well and bring her leads on an equal ground, the first time director added character and personality traits to make both Tanuj and Aditya unique in their own right.

"So Tanuj is someone who writes poetry, indulges in shayari and reads Harivansh Rai Bachchan. On the other hand, Aditya is seen in this entire head-banging rock avtar who has studied abroad. In the film, they are playing best friends," she adds.

While Izabelle Leite (seen earlier in teen drama Sixteen) is the female attraction in this Manju Lulla produced film, this screen outing about friendship is touted to step into Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar and Dil Chahta Hai milieu.

"Well, the movies you mention are the kind that have left a lasting impression on audience for years. They had their own take on friendship and while Puraani Jeans too has friendship at the core of it, the treatment is poles apart from these cult outings. My film is set in the 90s with a mountain setting to it. It may remind some of Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar but the buck stops there," she assures.
We wouldn't actually mind even if there are indeed some similarities!
