Hamilton Personal Care Worker Benno Burchert charged with sexual assault

Hamilton Police arrested and charged a 53 year-old Hamilton man with sexual assault offences after investigating allegations of a sexual assault in a neighbourhood park.

On Sunday, June 5th, 2011 Hamilton Police were called to a Hamilton home to investigate an allegation of a sexual assault. A witness reported to police that she had observed a man sexually assaulting another male in a park at approximately 11:00 a.m. The witness went home and called police.

Hamilton Police went to the home of the victim and spoke with the victim’s parents. Through the investigation, the 19 year-old male victim, who functions at the level of a toddler, had been in the park with his personal care worker on Sunday. The Personal Care Worker was still at the home caring for the victim when police arrived. He was arrested and held for a bail hearing on Monday June 6th, 2011.

Sexual Exploitation of a Person with a Disability.

Benno BURCHERT has been employed by St. Elizabeth Health Care as a Personal Care Worker for a number of years. Hamilton Police are concerned there may be further victims who are presently in his care or have been cared for in the past.
