Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jie Chi briefs RSS Foreign Minister Deng AlorThe Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jie Chi arrived in the South Sudanese capital Juba yesterday in a bid to strengthen diplomatic ties with the world’s newest state.

Chi told the press at Juba International Airport shortly after his arrival that his visit aimed at promoting friendship and co-operation between the two countries.

He was received by the South Sudanese caretaker Foreign Affairs Minister Deng Alor who expressed South Sudan’s willingness and desire to smoothen ties with the economic giant.

He described the visit by the Chinese Foreign Minister as an “opportunity for more engagements”.

“This is a great opportunity for us to discuss a number of issues with China as a development partner”, said Alor.

During his visit, Minister Chi is expected to hold a series of talks with high ranking government officials as well as define China’s position with the new state with regards to economic and trade ties.

He is also expected to meet Chinese investors in South Sudan.

This is the first visit by the Chinese Foreign Minister in Juba since the proclamation of South Sudan’s independence.
