An accident took place when a minibus taxi smashed a bus filled with passengers on Saturday after 7 a.m. between White river and Nelspruit in the eastern Mpumalanga province. The figure of victims in both of the vehicles was not immediately known. But ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said “The death toll might rise as the bus is still on its side”.

It was reported that, at least 9 people died and 45 people were injured. Of those injured, 10 were in a severe state, 12 were critical and 23 were moderately injured.

It was assumed that the driver actually could not manage as the car was travelling at a high velocity and lost control of the vehicle and hit the bus on the side.

The dead bodies were extremely damaged and hydraulic equipment was used to free the deceased bodies.

“That Fiat Uno came from the Kapsehoop Road and did not stop at the crossing of the N4 and then drove into the stationary bus” said John Erusmus, Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety and Security liaison.

The fatal accident rates have been increasing in the recent years in South Africa. Road accidents have become very common on the streets and highways. This happens because of the carelessness of the drivers and also because of the bad roads and spoilt street lights.
