A 48-year-old Renzo Da-Pra was found guilty who murdered a 12-year-old girl Emma Wighton, who was his father’s neighbor. Da-Pra cut her throat that caused serious harm to her body.

He also intended to kill Emma’s 77-year-old grandmother Vivienne Wighton on December 18 back in 2009.

Da-Pra was found guilty of murdering his own father, 77-year-old Gino Da-Pra on the grounds of significant harm. His father’s body was found in the boot of a car.  After he had murdered, he set himself to attempt for suicide outside the Fairfield Hospital.

In Supreme Court today, Justice Robert Shallcross Hulme sentenced Da-Pra to a minimum of 10 years for killing Emma Wightman, a minimum of 4 years, 6 months for manslaughter of his own father and a minimum of 4 years, 6 months for attacking Emma’s grandmother Ms Wightman. Da-Pra was sentenced for minimum of 15 years but he will be eligible for parole on December 20, 2024.

Outside the court, Emma’ aunt Ley Wightman proclaimed that her family was devastated by the span of his jail sentence.

Justice Humle agreed that Da-Pra was in an abnormal mental state which was the cause of his offending. He said Da-Pra had no prior history of violent behavior and scandalous record; he was on a disability retirement fund after a motorbike accident and was regretful to reoffend. He added that Da-Pra was on medication for his mental illness.

The horrible episode definitely had a dreadful impact on the victim’s family and the court said it could not do anything to bring back a life that had been lost.
