In a motion moved by Budi SPLM Member of Parliament Arungole Rino Loremo the state Parliamentarians criticised MacDowell Limited for incompetence saying that a number of contracts awarded to it have not been honoured.

The legislators have accused the company of poor performance and breach of contracts awarded to it by the State Government.

The company has been operating as a monopoly since the inception of state the government in 2005 and has received huge amounts of funds for different contracts.

The parliamentarians cited four road construction projects which the company has neglected as the Torit-Magwi road, Hilaya-Tseretenya road, Obira-Chahari-Himan-Lotome-humulac road and the Loriyok-Chukudum-Kikilai-Lorem-Himan (New Cush).

Arungole added that the firm was paid for the construction of the Loriyok-Chukudum-Kikilai-Lorem-Himan-Nadapal road for seven months, but not even “an inch of the road has been worked on”.

He accused the state Ministry of Roads and Transport of colluding with the company to embezzle funds meant for development as Ministry officials have not given accurate reports on the projects.

The newly appointed State Minister for Roads and Transport Charles Ambrosio Lokonoi who also serves as an MP welcomed the move by his colleagues and promised to take action in determining the fate of MacDowell Limited.

The legislators welcomed the motion by consensus and constituted a 5-member Parliamentary committee led by Aventore Bilal Kenyi to carry out an inquiry into the company’s activities.

The committee will report back to the Assembly on July 16.
