According to the budget committee Chairperson Deng Chuol, the budget estimated at 264,858,327 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) is being implemented starting this month.

He said that there was an increase from last year’s budget estimates because of an increase in the salaries for the organised forces. Last year the budget was 194 million where 28 million was proposed to be collected locally from the counties.

He said that only eight million were collected from the counties.

“The state got a problem of insecurity and infrastructures. We were not reaching the counties as planned,” he said.

State Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Aquilla Maluth Mam said that this year they will try and collect all the projected revenues to avoid the deficit as the fiscal year starts in July.

He said that his government will implement new tax and revenue collection models to increase income for the government as the austerity measures continue being implemented in the country.

This will help bridge the gap created as very little is collected in the counties that are experiencing insecurity as not trade is happening in the areas.
