Officially graced by the State Deputy Governor Jerome Gama Surur, the workshop attracted members of the civil society, faith based organizations, government representatives, academicians and members of the national security policy drafting committee.

“The consultative workshop tomorrow will be for the State Legislators and members of the judiciary while the third day will be for a group constituting civil society, faith based organizations and academicians combined with government representatives and members of Legislature,” said Michael Lopuke Lotyam, the National Security Policy’s Focal Person in EES.

The National Chairperson of Drafting the NSP Major General Kuol Deng Abot who is also Director General of Defence and Veterans Affairs in the national Ministry of SPLA Affairs said the national government in Juba has always desired to develop a NSP.

He said NSP’s ultimate aim is to strengthen the reform process of the entire security sector and state institutions for a strong foundation for economic development, security, stability and sustainable peace.

“This is to fill an existing gap of our ongoing efforts in individual institutional reforms by providing an overarching policy on which these reforms should be based relating to the security sector,” said Maj. Gen. Kuol.

In this regard, the national council of ministers recently endorsed the setting up of a drafting committee to lead in the development of a National security policy for South Sudan.

Kuol explained before the convention that the formation of the ongoing policy is a responsibility of all citizens in private and public institutions, collective or individuals, to share their opinion on matters related to national security

Maj. Gen. Kuol said the consultation started right from grassroots to the entire South Sudanese in EES. “We on behalf of the people of South Sudan, we will ensure open consultations at all levels of the government accordingly,” he said.

The Deputy Governor welcomed the initiative of the national government to guarantee the security of its people.

He said no development can easily be realized without ensuring National Security to protect human life and property as investors rely on it in every country.

The ongoing consultative process is expected to run until Thursday 23 this week.
