ChidambaramOn Thursday, the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said terrorism was an alarming challenge that needed a comprehensive strategy of counter terrorism as Chidambaram  was referring two recent terror attacks – explosion in Mumbai and Delhi. He termed these blasts as “blot” on government’s record.

The Home Minister P Chidambaram, while addressing, said many homegrown modules are active across the country and several of them have acquired the ability to make bombs to target sensitive places of the country. During his address to the country’s top police brass in New Delhi he said, “There are Indian modules too. They seem to have the capacity to attract radicalized youth to their fold… Many of these modules have acquired the capacity to make bombs,”

Chidambaram  said there are a few small groups of trained people who have been active for terrorism in the country. The Home Minister also said some similar modules are freely joining an organization called Indian Mujahideen (IM). “Old cadres of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) have transformed themselves into IM cadre”, he added.

While inaugurating the three-day annual conference of DGPs and IGPs which was organized by Intelligence Bureau Chidambaram  said, “There are other Indian modules that espouse the cause of right-wing religious fundamentalism or separatism.”

Mr. Chidambaram said “two terrorist attacks in the space of two months are indeed blots on our record”, as he was referring to July 13 Mumbai and September 7 Delhi explosions, the sources reported.
