Sonia Gandhi, the Congress president, is to attend Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting on Thursday in national capital to finalize tickets for the coming Uttar Pradesh election. She will resume her office for the first time after her successful surgery from New York.
Mrs Gandhi will chair this evening’s session of her party’s CEC. The sources reported that the colleagues of Gandhi have not been able to meet her since she arrived in Delhi early morning on 8th September, accompanied by Priyanka, her daughter.
Gandhi’s participation in today’s meeting was confirmed by Janardhan Dwivedi, Party General Secretary. Dwivedi said Central Election Committee meeting was to confirm tickets for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections planned early next year.
This meeting acquires importance in view of the reported internal strife within the UP Congress unit concerning the allocation of tickets, the sources reported. Pramod Tiwari and Rita Bhuguna will be from the top state party leaders who will be attending the meeting.
As she arrived back from her successful surgery on September 08 Gandhi had not been meeting anyone and was on full rest as advised by her doctor. She underwent a surgery for an undisclosed ailment.
Mrs Gandhi, 64-year-old, left the country on 2nd August and had a surgery around August 04 and 05.
