Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurating the 56th meeting of the National Development Council in the Indian Capital said that it is everyone’s combined responsibility to lift the mood of negativity amid the economic slowdown.

Mr. Manmohan said that the economic slowdown in India is a matter of great concern but it should be looked upon as an episode that won’t last too long. He went on to say that developments in the world economy and the neighborhood should be considered while charting the Twelfth Five Year Plan.

He also pointed out that the United Progressive Alliance also known as the UPA has accomplished annual growth rate of 8.5% in the past seven years.

India’s premier Manmohan Singh said that the government should make it a point to introduce special programmes that helps to lift the earning capacity of vulnerable section and poor. According to Mr. Manmohan Singh the masses should be provided facilities in health, skill development, education and sanitation.

He told the attending Chief Ministers of all states that despite the expansion of the economy, the government had a major role in providing a policy environment, development of infrastructure, livelihood support and access to public services.

He concluded by saying that without the implementation of the aforementioned progressive steps “effective inclusion is not possible”
