Three persons of a family died after their car rammed a stationary truck near Avalahalli Bridge on the Hoskote-Bangalore stretch of National Highway 4, on Sunday morning.

Software engineer Manoj aged 27, his mother, Ananthlakshmi aged 50, and aunt, Geeta who was 45, died on the spot, while Manoj’s father Satyanarayan (55) and their family friend, Saraswatamma, are in critical condition in a private hospital in Indiranagar.

The accident occurred around 3.30 a.m., when the family was returning home from a pilgrimage to Tirupati. The police said that the car hit the truck that was parked on the side of the road for repairs. “The truck was parked on the side, with a part of it jutting onto the road. There was inadequate lighting on the stretch and the truck driver had not put on the hazard light as warning to the oncoming vehicles,” the Avalahalli police said.

Manoj worked in a software company in the city and stayed in K.R. Puram. His family, which stayed in Bellary, had come down to Bangalore a few days ago, from where the five of them left for Tirupati. The police have arrested the driver of the truck and have filed a case against him.
