The president of PAS, Datuk Seri Hadi has declared that he does not want to be a part of the general election on Friday morning.

Hadi’s personality has changed dramatically. He used to be an aggressive speaker for his party often found attacking his political opponents openly. However, his declaration of wishing to stay away from the general election has still surprised many.

Datuk Seri Hadi said that if his party insisted he will only contest for one of the two seats he already has. He further said, “I will leave it to the party to decide.” Hadi is Marang MP and Rhu Redang assembly member. He says he has been in YB for more than 30 years now and its time young blood is given time to show their capabilities and talent.

He said, “I was given leadership responsibilities at a very young age. I became vice-president (of PAS) in my 30s… I have been around too long.”

Analysts have appreciated the step taken by Hadi comparing it to another PAS member Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat who is the spiritual advisor at the age of 84 and wishes to remain active and take part in politics.

Party members of Hadi were shocked and absolutely unprepared for the news. They were not sure what to comprehend from the news since he announced so in a media interview other than a formal announcement after having a discussion with other party members.
