The Parliament Select Committee (PSC) on the Lynas case is facing serious criticism by a number of politicians and members of the opposition party who are calling it a “PR [Public Relatins] exercise” only.
MP of Kuantan Fuziah Salleh commented on the issue and said, “It’s nothing more than a cover up. On one hand, they are saying they are concerned but on the other, they are dismissing the people by not listening to what they want. The people in Kuantan and those living around the plant do not want it there, or anywhere else in Malaysia, for the matter”.
In response to the various allegations laid on the Prime Minister for PSC, the Deputy PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin responded clarifying that the issue of the plant will come under the Purview of the Parliament. He further informed that to address the issue of Lynas plant the government has sent an invitation to specialized lawmakers from both political sides to weigh the pros and cons of the issue to bring to the parliament.
He also said, “Any decision taken by the committee stems from the power and scope of Parliament, and not solely from the Government.”
Another minister of the PM’s department also commented on the matter and informed that PSC will be given three months to come down to the findings and submit them.
