Ex-Bar Council president Lim Chee Wee and ex-Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Jamil Johari have been named as consultants to Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) – the task force – to facilitate the investigation of deaths in custody.
“The two consultants that will be assisting the task force are former Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Jamil Johari and former Malaysian Bar Council president Lim Chee Wee,” EAIC chair Datuk Heliliah Mohd Yusof said during a press conference today.
The EAIC was formed on May 28 with the task of conducting a holistic review of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) that became the main reason behind the tragic deaths of N. Dharmendran and R. Jamesh Ramesh.
Referring to similar inquiries led by the police department, EAIC chair Datuk Heliliah Mohd Yusof said she hoped it will dispel the notion of duplicity. The task force consists of six personnel including EAIC secretary Ahmad Razif Mohd Sidek, director Foo Hui Yi, legal adviser Eda Mazuin Abdul Rahman, and the EAIC’s sole investigator Mohd Nadzri Ibrahim.
In the meanwhile, the EAIC reiterated that it is only accountable to the Parliament despite being placed under the Prime Minister’s Department. According to Chief Executive Nor Afizah Hanum Mokhtar, the commission was only placed under the PM’s Department to smoothen the process of government fund transfers and emoluments for its staff.
